1 in 5 New Zealanders can't afford enough food...
...and they worry about where the next meal is coming from.
With the current cost of living crisis people who are experiencing poverty or struggling to make ends meet are finding that once they have paid for the increasing costs of housing, transport, power and other basic essentials, there is very little, or no money left for food. So they go without.
Every week Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai's Food Security team are distributing hundreds of food parcels. In the year ending 31st Dec 2024, the Mission distributed nearly 40000 food parcels.
The Mission's Community Centre Haeata are serving up to 350 meals, 365 days of the year to people who are living on the streets, or have not access to cooking facilities. This meal can be the only food that some people have that day.
Feed it Forward is an opportunity for us all to support people in our community who are struggling to afford or access food. By donating food items or money to support the Mission's food programmes, we are literally put food on the table for people who would otherwise go without.
