From Online to Real Life
You have just worked through some online scenarios which reflect real life for the many people we see come through our doors every day at HomeGround - Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai.
Thank you for your generous donation today. It will change lives.
Walk My Life Scenario
The Walk My Life scenario is an online resource developed by the Mission primarily for secondary schools in Aotearoa.
This resource is intended to 'spark a conversation' between students as they grapple to understand some of the potential causes of homelessness; lack of access to food and health issues that may move a person from being safe and well to suddenly living in great need.
As you have experienced, the scenario takes you through a series of decisions but also highlights that often there is no choice available, or that an event can happen on a 'flip of a coin' that will drastically change a person's situation in life.
You can visit Walk My Life here to get access to the scenario.
The Mission would like to thank Mission Ready HQ students and teachers, Auckland Girls Grammar School teachers and students, Takapuna Grammar School teachers and students and our own kaimahi from Street to Home for all of their work in helping us develop this resource.
About Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai
We respond to homelessness, poverty and great need in our city. People come to us when they need access to permanent and sustained housing, enough nutritious food to eat, and when their physical and mental health is compromised and they have no access to medical care.
Some people access our services to help them through a short and difficult time in their life. Others need a sustained and long-term plan for support. We offer support for however long and in whatever way needed. For some people that’s simply one of our many services, for others that’s a complex journey with our full support. As you saw from the scenarios, we also work with other social and government agencies to ensure the best outcomes for everyone, so no-one gets left behind.
Our services have evolved as the city’s social needs have. We respond to these needs with care and compassion while advocating for a reality where there are enough suitable homes, enough money for nutritious food and easily accessible health care for all. Since our doors opened more than 100 years ago, this has been our ‘why’.
