The Big Mission Home

I'm taking on The Big Mission Home!

I am taking part in The Big Mission Home and walking our city this March to raise funds for the Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai.

For more than a century, the Mission has been supporting Aucklanders in their times of need - providing nutritious food, homes, crisis support, medical care and dignity.  As the Mission continues to respond to huge demand for their essential services, they need our help more than ever.

I am raising funds to help support the services provided at the Mission’s HomeGround where:

  • every day between 250 – 350 people who are living on the streets or have no access to cooking facilities receive a hot nutritious meal in Haeata – the Community Dining Room. For many this meal is the only food they have each day.
  • Over 2,000 people receive vital and affordable health care at the Calder Health Centre.
  • During the day people living on the streets or in unsafe accommodation have a safe place to rest, wash and connect with Mission staff for support.
  • People with drug or alcohol dependency can access a professional social withdrawal (detox) service
  • 80 people who were homeless or on the social housing registry now call home in the apartments
  • People are able to access support with affordable housing, job training, budgeting, Government support and community activities.

Please support me by making a donation. Big or small, everything you can give will make a difference to Aucklanders in greatest need.

Thank you!

My Updates

Training continues... and many many thanks to you!

Saturday 15th Mar
17 km - the distance some people walk in  order to access City Mission support - is going to be a stretch for me. Today, the St Aidan's group met to walk around and up Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill. I'd walked from home to our meeting place in the car park, to add a bit more distance. Ended up at the cafe, slurping some delicious feijoa sorbet (try it!) in the midday sun!
But distance... maybe 10kms or so total?? My feet will be very tired next Saturday.
So I'm very grateful to everyone supporting me - aka the City Mission! You'll spur me on next Saturday - and I'll also be thinking of those tired hopeful people who seek something new, something life-giving, from the Mission. Thank you, thank you for helping to provide what others need.

In training!

Friday 7th Mar
Planning to stretch my legs for 8km early tomorrow morning. May have a family supporter with me... if he can get up in time... zzzzz!?!
:-)

me and my friends!

Monday 3rd Mar
Hoping that these will see me through - and grateful thanks to everyone supporting  - not me, but the City Mission! Such good work! xx

Thank you to everyone!
