This March, I’m stepping up for an epic challenge – and I need your help!
My name is Yima.
In 2023, I moved from China to New Zealand and later began working in media as a journalist.
Over the past two years, I’ve reported on and witnessed many fundraising and community initiatives. Most of the time, I was standing on the side, telling other people’s stories. But the people who kept showing up and taking action stayed with me — and quietly encouraged me.
This year, I decided not to just think about it, or write about it, but to take part myself.
So I set myself a simple goal:
to walk 7,000 steps every day.
Not for tracking apps or fitness targets, but to turn something ordinary into something meaningful.
I’m fundraising for Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai. All donations go directly toward providing nourishing food, safe housing, and essential healthcare for people who are facing real hardship.
Through my work as a journalist, I’ve seen how the Mission shows up every day — in moments of instability, when people most need to be seen and supported. Not just as emergency help, but through long-term care that helps people find their footing again.
If the steps I take each day can lead to even a small, real change for someone else,
then it’s worth it.
If you’d like to, I’d love for you to walk this journey with me in your own way.
Thank you for your support.
One step at a time — slowly, but sincerely.
