This Giving Tuesday, can you help us meet this challenge in 24 hours?
It takes $10,700 to feed the Mission's whānau for a day.
Every day at Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai, we feed over 1,800 people. We provide boxes of nutritious food for hungry families, freshly cooked meals in our community dining room for people experiencing homelessness and hardship, and communal meals at our transitional housing services and residential detox programme.
But we need your help to make this essential support possible.
This Giving Tuesday, will you help feed the Mission for a day?
Your support can help parents like Amber feed their families.
When young mum Amber* was unable to breastfeed her new baby, the cost of baby formula was too much for her already tight budget. That's when she turned to the Mission for help.
There are thousands of families in Tāmaki Makaurau struggling with the daily reality of low incomes, unaffordable housing and the rising cost of food. With your help, the Mission can provide nutritious food for families like Amber's who would otherwise go without.
Amber has three young children, who she's raising on her own. Caring for her family is a full-time job right now, and it's a struggle to make ends meet.
"Our cupboard can look so empty. Some nights I don't eat - I'll make sure the kids have eaten."
Amber first turned to the Mission for support after her youngest child was born. Although she had breastfed her first two children, the stress of the situation affected her milk supply. But she couldn't afford the additional cost of baby formula to feed her new baby.
Like many people surviving on low incomes, Amber has learnt how to stretch a dollar, but from time to time, even her careful budgeting is not enough. Getting a box of food from the Mission takes pressure off Amber in those weeks when her income isn't enough to cover the essentials.
"The food boxes make a big difference. It puts a smile on my face to see the kids eating."
Once her baby is old enough, Amber's looking forward to going back to paid work so she can support herself and her whānau. "I want to get a job and be successful to give my kids success as well."
In the meantime, we need your help to support Amber in her times of need.
